Mona Vale is a northern beaches suburb that is seeing some major government investment and activity.
More than $150 million is going into the suburb with an upgraded Mona Vale Rd which is one of the main arterial routes off and on the northern beaches, the local primary school is seeing major improvements and even the surf club is getting a serious makeover. To cap it off the suburb is getting a sophisticated performance space.
Mona Vale has long been a gateway suburb to the northern half of the northern baches. It has a thriving shopping village with independent shops and a clutch of medical-based businesses and workplaces.

Work upgrading Mona Vale Rd began at the end of January expanding the road from two to four lanes between Mona Vale and Terrey Hills. The $140 million upgrade will widen the shoulders of the road and includes creating special fauna crossings for native animals to cross safely. The preparatory work is expected to take four months, until the end of May and the second stage of the upgrade will resume later in the year to be completed by 2022.
Mona Vale Public School is getting a multi-milion dollar redevelopment including a performing arts centere which is expected to become a major venue on the northern beaches.
State Pittwater MP Rob Stokes announced a funding commitment for the school which will result in the removal of 15 demountable classrooms to be replaced by new airconditioned classroooms. The funding will also pay for a performance centre which is anticipated to become a community space for the whole of the northern beaches.
“It’s been a long road but this community will finally get 21st century classrooms and a performance space that will provide a legacy for generations to come.”school principal Greg Jones said.
“It is not going to be a school hall with a performance space. This is going to be a specially designed arts space for the school and the community.”
Northern Beaches Council is putting forward $2.5 million towards the performance space with Mayor Michael Regan describing it as a fantastic investment.
Meanwhile the North Sydney Planning Panel last month unaminously approved a futuristic $6.6 million new surf club on Mona Vale beach. Work will begin on the two-storey building later this year and is expected to be open for the winter of 2020. The new club will have a gym, canteen and a cafe for the wider community.
Club president Bryce Munro said it was a huge win for the club and wider community.
“We’re absolutely delighted,” he said. “This is more than just a surf life saving club, it is somewhere for the whole community.
The State government has agreed to contribute towards the project.

But if you are looking for a quiet spot to live in this suburb there is one standout property; a three-bedroom unit beside the eighth tee of the Bayview Golf Course.
Number 5/50 Parkland Rd, Mona Vale is a north-facing apartment with high-end inclusions, an entertaining balcony and lift access. It is due to be auctioned on Saturday March 16 and has a $1.6 million price guide.
People downsizing from Bayview and Mona Vale have been inspecting the apartment according to Geoff Amaral, of LJ Hooker Narrabeen.
Mr Amaral said the unit was so quiet all you could hear was the sound of birdlife. The living areas and the covered balcony face north, there is lift access to the dual-level apartment and the two carspaces are side by side rather than tandem.
The upper level of the apartment includes a high-end kitchen, the lounge and dining room and the main bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, spa bath ensuite and access onto the balcony. There is also a powder room for guests.
The lower level has two more bedrooms and the second bathroom and this would suit grandchildren or visiting family. This design offers a good separation of space between the main living area and the guest accommodation.
There is 192sqm on title, generous visitor parking, reverse cycle airconditioning and the building has intercom security.
Entertaining is made easy courtesy of the balcony which has a private and green outlook.
Mr Amaral said the build was top notch with mosaic bathrooms, lots of timber and an exceptional kitchen.
