FROM a fairytale facade to a contemporary extension this house is captivating from the moment one steps across the threshold.
With a white stucco exterior and a pitched red terracotta roof Emma and Kris Whitehead knew they could turn this Tudor-style home at 388 Swann Rd, St Lucia, into something special.
“We loved the character and the style of the original property and also the potential the land offered,” Mrs Whitehead said.
“We had two children who were very small at the time, so we could see that it was ideal for a young and growing family, although it should suit anybody in any walk of life.”
The couple more than doubled the floorplan by adding an extension to the rear, and a deck.
They sensitively restored the original part of the home, but consciously created a contemporary extension.
When asked if she had a favourite area of the house, Mrs Whitehead said there was “no discrimination”.
“Each room gives you a different feeling,” she said.
“When you’re in the old house, you feel hugged, you get that feeling of protection.
“But in the extension, there’s the expansive open-living, which is brilliant for summer time.
“You can find the perfect place with what you’re feeling in that moment, and that’s kind of neat.”
On the first level of the house is a formal lounge, study, sitting room, laundry, mudroom, the master suite, and an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room.
The upper level has four more bedrooms and a bathroom.
While Mrs Whitehead said they designed the house as their forever home, she was now on a crusade to save other character properties.
“I want to try and prevent houses from being bulldozed … keep the bones of what was there and just give it a facelift.”
The house is being marketed by Jason Adcock of Adcock Prestige and will go under the hammer at 10am June 29.
