SA’s auction scene is back for 2019

Most of Adelaide may still be in holiday mode but, for a number of vendor,s it’s back to business as they put their homes under the hammer this weekend.

There have been barely any auctions held in the City of Churches since December, but this weekend will see the scene kick back into action.

According to realestate.com.au, 17 auctions are scheduled this Saturday across SA, 13 of which are based in Adelaide, in suburbs including Fullarton, Novar Gardens, Woodville Park, Surrey Downs, Athelstone, Wayville, Para Vista, Lockelysm Firle, Holden Hill and Burnside.

The remaining four properties are located between 81km and 337km from Adelaide’s CBD in McCracken, Robe, Stockport and Port Neill.

First up is a stone-fronted home at 58 St Andrews Cres, Novar Gardens.

Home buyers heading for the Hills

The three-bedroom home, which sits directly opposite Glenelg Golf Club. has a price guide of $595,000 and will be auctioned at 10am, Saturday.

Also to be auctioned at the same time is a character home at 82 Windsor Ave, Woodville Park.

Set on a 729sqm block, the three-bedroom property has been listed without a price guide but offers plenty of secure off-street parking and space for a caravan or boat.

Selling agent Melina Kendle of Toop&Toop Real Estate says she expects the home to sell under the hammer, after about 60 groups inspected the home since Christmas.

“It all started just after New Year. That’s when we had a lot of people looking at that property and many had been looking for some time,” she said.

“The property is very much in original condition and, while it could be lived in as in, it could also be renovated or extended.

“In fact, a lot of homeowners in that street have done exactly that.

“So that’s where interest has predominantly come from; renovators – but we’ve also had some investors look at it.”

Ms Kendle says she expects the first weekend of auctions to be hotly contested among buyers.

“There’s a lot of buyers around, especially buyers looking for these type of houses, as well as bungalows and villas. Anything with a bit of character,” she says.

Also going under the hammer this Saturday at 10.30am respectively, are U2/344 Hancock Rd, Surrey Downs – a two-bedroom unit perfect for downsizers, 9 Patrick St, Athelstone – a five-bedroom home on a 570sqm block, 6 Wellington Tce, Fullarton – a modern three-bedroom home, to be auctioned with a price guide of $790,000, and 11 Rose Tce, Wayville – a sandstone villa with a $1.05 million price guide.

Sharon Gray of Ouwens Casserly Real Estate, the selling agent of 11 Rose Tce, said the property has been well received since its launch to the market two weeks ago.

“Interest has been really good, probably because we launched on the fifth (of January) when most properties weren’t yet to the market,” she said.

“As a result, we had 30 groups through on the first weekend of open and a further six, despite the heat, at our last inspection on Wednesday.

“People are starting to realise that banks are taking longer in terms of their finance approvals and because of that, people are getting organised earlier which puts them in a good position when they are ready to buy.”

Saturday’s auction action continues at 11.30am with a family home going under the hammer on a corner allotment at 2 Milligan Drive, Para Vista. The property is set on a 755sqm block and listed without a price guide.

Other properties to be auctioned at 11.30am are 230 Frome St, Adelaide – a two-bedroom row cottage on a 255sqm block, 20 Douglas St, Lockleys – a modern three-bedroom home with a price guide of $750,000, and 74 Gage St, Firle – a double brick home, listed with a price guide of $600,000.

Wrapping up Adelaide’s weekend’s auction call are two properties in Holden Hill and one in Burnside.

Set on a spacious 757sqm block, 16 Gordini Cres, Holden Hill will be auctioned at noon and is being marketed without a price guide, while 2/6 Graham Ave, Holden Hill will be auctioned at 12.30pm at $360,000pm.

15 Kurralta Drive, Burnside will meanwhile go to auction at 2.30pm without a price guide.
