Resort-style living at its finest at 12 Scarborough St, Somerton Park

LOVE the outdoors? The owners of a stunning Somerton Park home, vendors Jane and Peter Wanniaratchy do, spending as much time dining outside as they do in.

The couple bought the 12 Scarborough St home in 2014, attracted by its location and family-friendly floorplan.

“We loved the lifestyle of the home and the location was a huge drawcard – we were previously living on the other side of Brighton Rd and we were pretty keen to get to the western side of it and we fell in love with it from the moment we walked through the front gate,” Mrs Wanniaratchy says.

“We’ve got two young children who love the beach and love swimming, so the pool was a big plus, and we really loved the size of the home because it was bigger than what we had before. My husband works from home, so the office really ticked another box for us as well.”

Since buying the home, the couple have placed their stamp on it, making it even more functional and easier to maintain.

“There was a lot of attraction in the fact that we could simply move in and really not have to do anything to it if we didn’t want to – it was already done and beautiful, but in saying that, we’ve added things that would make life easier, like 40 solar panels, converting the pool from chlorine to magnesium, carpeted some bedrooms, put in a gas log fireplace, and have landscaped the front garden to make it easier to maintain,” Mrs Wanniaratchy says.

“We haven’t done a big renovation, but done lots of little things to put our own touch on it.”

The home has up to five bedrooms – the master on the upper level and complete with a walk-in robe, an ensuite and a nearby office. An open-plan kitchen, family and dining room in the heart of the home leads out to a covered alfresco entertainment area with an outdoor kitchen leading to a pool and spa which starts under the main roof and extends into the rear yard.

“It’s a really cool family-friendly home that just promotes a lifestyle,” Mrs Wanniaratchy says.

“This is definitely a home for families or anyone who loves to be outdoors – we sit outside in the winter and we use the outdoors as much as the indoors, if not more.

“Everyone gets their own space, and we have a spare bedroom here for when family come in from interstate and overseas to visit. We do a lot of entertaining – our house has become the place where everyone wants to come because it’s easy and people enjoy it here.

“Ever since we’ve moved in we’ve had every Christmas here and all the family have come. Once they’ve come once, they always want to come back for a holiday.”

The home also has a cellar, giving parents another versatile entertainment area.

“We’ve got a Space Invaders game table, a TV, and a dart board down there, and that’s a really great space for the adults where we can do our own thing,” Mrs Wanniaratchy says.

The family are now moving on to pursue a business venture, but are hoping to stay near the coast.

“We’ve just loved it here and whoever buys it will be getting a sensational house in the most fantastic location,” Mrs Wanniaratchy says.
