Huge crowds poured into Bentleigh East yesterday with 19 auctions marking it as the city’s hammer time hot spot.
And a much-loved family home at 12 Bellevue Rd proved hot property, luring three bidders and a crowd of more than 100 onlookers.
The three-bedroom house received a low $680,000 opening bid, but the figure quickly rose as two other parties raised the price in $5000 and $10,000 increments.

After 20 back-and-forth bids between the three parties, the hammer finally fell at $797,000, a result $22,000 above reserve.
Buyer Jenny Saunders said she was excited to downsize to the light-filled, low-maintenance abode.
“I have two dogs that I wanted to make sure had room to play,” Ms Saunders said.
“It didn’t take very long to find this place, I sold my house in Bentleigh in late January and I wanted to stay in the area.”
Her two older sons would also move into the property in the short-term, she added.
Vendors Sasha and Richard Wein said they were excited to sell their first family home, which they bought 10 years ago after relocating from Sydney.
“We’re moving around the corner to upsize and get into the McKinnon Secondary College zone,” Ms Wein said.
“I think the next person will love what we’ve done to it, we created a modern style but kept a traditional feel.”
The couple updated the property, added the deck and spent more than $20,000 double glazing the entire house.
Buxton Bentleigh agent Angelo Nikitas said more than 120 parties had inspected the house during its popular campaign.
“The vendors poured their heart and soul into this home and it has the perfect marriage of indoor and outdoor living,” Mr Nikitas said.
He called the Bentleigh East market buoyant and booming, with more auctions scheduled in the suburb yesterday than anywhere else in Melbourne.
The Bellevue Rd house was the most viewed property going under the hammer on Saturday in Victoria according to realestate.com.au.
