AN original house in Torquay, with an outdoor staircase leading to the upper level, has sold after auction.

One live bid of $800,000 was received for 3 Short St before it was passed in and negotiations reached a sale not long after.

A Sunbury couple secured the three-bedroom house for $832,000.

McCartney, Torquay agent Tim Carson said the buyers were going to rent out the house initially.

“They will then demolish and build their retirement home in the next one to two years,” Mr Carson said.

“They have been coming down here for quite some time and have friends down here so decided to move.”

The 696sq m property is in old Torquay walking distance to the beach, restaurants, cafes, schools and shops.

The ground floor of the house has the open-plan kitchen, meals area and loungeroom, along with two bedrooms.

Upstairs is a third bedroom.

There is also a carport and single garage.

The median house price in Torquay has increased 12.4 per cent in the past year to $820,000, according to CoreLogic.
