Inside the incredible $30m Vaucluse home of Alex Ma

Businessman Alexander Ma can rightly assume the title “king of the castle”.

The 29-year-old spends a lot of time in Hong Kong, where the prominent Ma family comes from.

But when in residence at the Vaucluse property at 20A Vaucluse Rd that he bought for $26.5 million in 2017, he wakes to iconic harbour views in what’s the highest-built home within the Hermitage estate.

To the left, he can gaze out on the home that Aqualand director “Jim” Shangjin Lin, 30, bought for $52 million in 2016, now being renovated.

The original “Hermitage”, where Justin Hemmes resides is in the foreground.

And to the right, Mr Ma can see the neighbouring harbourfront Carrara Rd homes he bought for $56 million late last year.

“I love being close to the water,” Mr Ma said in an exclusive interview with the Wentworth Courier.

When he had the chance to buy a “large waterfront lot in one of the best areas in the east” to build “a dream home” with beach and jetty access he grabbed it.

That’s not to say he hasn’t loved his current home — which is nothing short of remarkable.

It has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and space for a dozen cars.

He nominates the “sunsets, privacy, the in/out living space (having the kitchen, pool, BBQ all in the same area), proximity to great beaches and harbourfront trails” as key attractions.

And did the single man find it too big for his needs? “I think the layout of the house is very versatile,” Mr Ma said.” It isn’t too big for me. It’s always nice to have extra space.”

And it comes with plenty of toys. “The house has got everything to entertain family and guests, whether it be pool and sauna, ping pong or just sitting and enjoying the views.”

Explaining his decision to sell now, he said: “I fly often and it is a shame I don’t get to enjoy the house as much as I’d like to.

“It would be better suited for someone who plans to spend more time in Sydney to enjoy the house.”

Agents Peter Leipnik (0402 566 607) and Alexander George (0415 699 349) of BadgerFox say:

“Along with the incredible harbour views, the vast living areas and size of the internal space is like nothing we have seen.”

The home has 1500 sqm of internal living space, it’s designed by Bruce Stafford; has a commercial grade lift; heated pool; cinema, gym, jacuzzi, sauna and guest house.

It goes to auction on March 18 with a price guide of $30 million.

The inspection times are Saturday, 1.15pm-2pm.
