Farewell to five generations of history

Farewell to five generations of history

With a real blend of heritage features and contemporary finishes, this two level home called Blair Cottage was built c1885 and has been owned and lived in by five generations of the same family.

The facade of 63 The Boulevarde in Dulwich Hill has the classic Victorian feel, with steps leading up to the front porch and door.

As you enter, there is a casual living space on the left hand side, with a bay window and original features like the high ceiling and polished timber flooring.

It flows through to a formal dining area with restored fireplace and ceiling rose. On the other side of the hallway are two bedrooms, one overlooking the front garden and the other with an ensuite.

This part of the house can be shut off from the rear, with the combined kitchen and living area at the heart of the property. There is a combination of modern elements, including downlights and kitchen with modern appliances and stone benchtops.

There is also another fireplace making the space perfect for entertaining guests or relaxing after a long day.

Vendor Barbara Stephens bought the house around 10 years ago, with her great-grandmother one of the first owners.

Ms Stephens and her husband completed much of the renovations and said some of her favourite features were the original fireplaces and the community vibe.

“It was a very happy house and we had some great memories,” she said. “It is a really lovely community and is just a short stroll to everything.”

Outside there is a paved entertainment area and manicured gardens that create a private haven to relax.

The top floor was added by Ms Stephens and consists of two bedrooms, including the main.

Both lead through to a balcony that overlooks the back garden, while the main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe.

There is also a modern bathroom with floor-to-ceiling tiles, a freestanding bath and frameless glass shower.

The house is close to quality schooling options, the light rail, bus routes, the train station and cafes and restaurants.
