A CHARMING Newtown house positioned between Pakington St and Kardinia Park has sold after auction.

One live bid of $500,000 before 8 Austin Terrace passed in was all it took for the bidder to get first right to negotiate and that she did, securing the property for $525,000 after auction.

Buxton agent Matt Plunkett said the buyer was selling in Highton and would be moving into the property after falling in love with the location.

“Newtown is such a desired location and this is such a quiet street walking distance to everything,” Mr Plunkett said

“It is a small home but it is liveable and it is a reasonable price for Newtown.”

The traditional weatherboard facade is what you expect to see in Newtown and inside there is historical charm with timber floorboards and high ceilings.

Two bedrooms are positioned at the front of the house and the kitchen and living area are at the back.

There is also a small backyard with grassed area and deck.

The median house price in Newtown has remained steady in the past year, increasing 2.6 per cent to $800,000, according to CoreLogic.
