Ellen DeGeneres buys again in California

She is the queen of day time talk worth $400 million ($AUD551 million) and has a very first world problem — Ellen DeGeneres can’t stop collecting real estate.

The stand up comedian turned talk show host is almost single-single-handedly keeping the realtors of California in their jobs.

In 2018 alone, she bought or sold a total of seven homes and before the first month of 2019 had finished it is reported she’s done it again.

DeGeneres and her wife, Australian-born Portia de Rossi, just dropped $27 million ($AUD37 million) on a Balinese-inspired dream house in Montecito.

While the rest of us try to stomach that price tag it was actually easy to swallow for the veteran home buyers. The sprawling 3.4ha property was originally listed for $40 million ($AUD55 million) a year ago before being discounted to $35 million.

Built in 2011, the incredibly private Asian-influenced property was custom-designed for avid art collectors — Marsha Stroum Glazer (whose father was the cashed up entrepreneur Sam Stroum, and sister was the US Ambassador to Luxembourg under President Obama) and her husband Jay Glazer.

The contemporary glass structure has bamboo ceilings, black limestone finishes, distressed oak floor, five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms all within more than 760sqm of living space.

Of course there are multiple outdoor living areas for lazing around with fire pits, dining spaces and loads of lawn and gardens as well as views over the Pacific Ocean.

It wouldn’t be a star’s contemporary compound without a fully equipped two-bedroom guesthouse, a detached office, plus a private pool cabana and gym.

And the pool is a star in itself. Made from basalt pebble, the infinity pool sits high above the tropical gardens like a shiny stage.

The block even came with “an attached lot” according to previous advertising material, allowing the real estate addict to add to her property portfolio which already includes an equestrian ranch across the road they acquired in 2018 for a more modest $6.7 million ($AUD9.23 million).

The high profile pair also have an $18.6 million ($AUD25.63 million) beachside property in the region they bought in 2017, plus a Los Angeles home they bought for $15 million ($AUD20.67 million) in 2018.
