Chicago police allege US actor made up attack to ‘promote his career’

Jussie Smollett has been released on bail as Chicago police allege the ‘Empire’ actor orchestrated a hoax hate crime attack to ‘promote his career.’ Smollett claimed he was attacked by two masked men who shouted racial and homophobic epithets at him while he was walking home from a sandwich shop at 2am on January 29th. He also claims the attackers were US President Donald Trump supporters. Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson lambasted the actor, saying the 36 year-old ‘took advantage of the pain and anger around racism to promote his career’. Smollett’s lawyers claim the actor ‘vehemently denies’ the allegations made by police.
