Balmoral house with views hits the market

It was just supposed to be an extension but the owners of this Balmoral house quickly got carried away.

Before they knew it, they were knocking out walls and renovating the entire house.

Zoe and Andres Rehbein had bought the 37 McIlwraith Ave property just more than three years ago after being drawn to its elevation and views, and set out to add another space.

“Initially we wanted to extend a third level of the house — just add one very small room at the top to heighten that sense of being on top of the world,” Mrs Rehbein said.

“As we started working, we started opening it up.

“Our vision kept taking us further and further down the path until it was completely recreated.”

That renovation took about 18 months to complete, but the owners were “thrilled” with the result.

“The house felt like it deserved us to put the best into it … so we just kept going,” Mrs Rehbein said.

“It was a vision realised.”

The tri-level home has views out to Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge and down the Brisbane river.

There are five bedrooms, including master suite and guest bedroom, and living areas across all of its levels.

It has the latest smart technology with Cbus automation, ducted airconditioning, Bose ceiling speakers, security intercom and security cameras.

Mrs Rehbein found it difficult to choose a favoured area of the property.

“I do love the kitchen, it looks up and down the river, it’s really large and open and has a beautiful family feel to it,” she said.

“We also have a beautiful rooftop terrace which has had many a lovely night watching the fireworks and entertaining friends. We are incredibly spoiled to look out each day at the vista before us.”
