Affordable barn conversion a quirky tree change

If you are looking for a home that’s something a bit different, this converted barn in Strathalbyn might just take the cake.

As part of a deceased estate the property, at 4/1 Wallbank St, is an eclectic mix of timber, corrugated iron, bright colours and beautiful gardens.

BIG GOAL FOR PROMINENT REAL ESTATE IDENTITY

Raine & Horne Real Estate agent Brendan Saunders said the property had been added onto over the years, giving it a unique structure.

“An elderly lady has lived in the home for the past 18 years, it’s ideal for someone to come into and shape to the way they would want it,” he said.

The two-bedroom home has a quirky main bedroom built on a mezzanine, overlooking the living room, and features two large skylights to take in the stars.

Mr Saunders said the home would likely divide homebuyers, “either you love it or hate it”, but said its quirks really made it a stand out.

“It’s almost the sort of property you’d find in the Hills and Bridgewater,” he said.

“The vendor was quite arty and a green thumb, the garden is beautiful and the (corrugated) iron just flows with the home.”

Located a quick walk away from the community pool, a handful of hotels and the main street, Mr Saunders said the property would likely attract a local but could draw the attention of a buyer looking to relocate.

“Strathalbyn is really centrally located, it’s close to Goolwa for the beach and Mount Barker,” he said.

“It’s really thriving and growing at the moment, we’ve got a lot of motorbikes that come up here on the weekend, lots of parklands and it’s still quite affordable.”

Although the home needs some work, Mr Saunders said it provided buyers with plenty of opportunities and was quite unusual for the area.

“It could be used as an Airbnb, it’s pretty funky and that’s what people are looking for with holiday accommodation,” he said.

“We do get a few quirky properties, but this is not something you see very often.”

The property is on the market with a price guide of $290,000 to $310,000.
